The Citadel Success Institute (CSI)
CSI is a summer transitional program that helps students get a head start in preparing academically, physically, and socially for cadet life at The Citadel. Benefits of the program include:
- Becoming familiar with the campus and student support services
- Learning about academic and physical expectations
- Earning college credit (4-5 Hours plus additional non-credit hour courses required to graduate)
- Building a support system of fellow cadets and Citadel professionals that are instrumental for a successful first (“knob”) year and beyond
The dates of this year's session will be July 6th to July 31st.
CSI costs $3,500. I will say the program is very good. The real payoff comes when they report on Matriculation Day in August to a place they are familiar with and see people with whom they have a relationship.
You can also look at the cost from the standpoint of the number of credit hours they can get. Undergraduate hours are about $500 per hour. Based on getting 4-5 hours, that would cost $2000-$2500. The remaining potion would be for room and board. Additionally, the extra Physical Education non-credit hour class does free up space in their schedules for other courses or not as many during a tough first semester.
